Fable Auckland Review

Overview

This is a beautifully restored heritage building, one of Auckland oldest skyscrapers. At 10 stories it’s modest by international standards, but in Auckland in 1928 it was a sight to behold. In 2017 it was converted from a bland 3 star hotel into a genuine 5 star boutique hotel that oozes style. The style is a mash up of 1920s opulence and modern comforts. It gives the hotel a romantic feel perfect for couples. Some of the 79 rooms are pretty small but all are beautifully decorated.

Location

The location is a 10/10 for tourists. It’s near the bottom of Auckland’s Queen Street in the CBD. Really close to Britomart, High Street and the Viaduct. Perfect for tourists and couples. Close to other 5 star hotels including Mövenpick Hotel Auckland.

Restaurants & Bars

Cooke’s restaurant provides excellent quality food and service in a beautiful surrounding. It’s a great place for a romantic dinner. The menu is designed around sharing plates but there are also larger mains for those who don’t like to share. The food is a modern take on the original restaurant in the building in the 1930’s it interesting, different and somehow seems familiar and comforting. The high tea is also amazing. It seems like the perfect surrounding for a high tea and the food does not disappoint.

Accommodation Standard

The standard of accommodation offered at Fable Auckland is a 9.5/10. The lobby, restaurant, communal spaces and rooms are all beautifully decorated with high quality fittings. And the building itself is a heritage listed gem. If you like the boutique hotel vibe then this is for you. No two rooms are exactly the same. The only complaints are that some of the rooms are a little small so if you’re grossly obese you may want to find somewhere with larger rooms.

Negatives

  • Some of the rooms are rather small. But book a suite and you’ll be just fine.
