Overview
The new Mercure Auckland Queen Street is a 4 Star hotel with 96 rooms over 8 floors. Mercure Auckland is a converted office building, not a purpose designed hotel. It’s a value based offering and it’s in the CBD rooms start from $120 per night. It opens in March 2021 so is in perfect condition. Rooms start from 20 sqm which is small, but they also start from $120 a night which is great value for an international hotel chain in the CBD. Because it’s a converted office building it’s not exactly an architectural masterpiece. But is is good quality affordable accomodation.
Location
The location is a 8/10 for tourists. It’s near the top of Queen Street so a long walk to the waterfront. You can walk the whole of the CBD from here and there are regular buses if you don’t want to walk back up the hill. There’s plenty of cheap hotels in this area. Mecure is better than most at the same price point.
Restaurants & Bars
The Basement Restaurant is located on the ground floor of the Hotel and offers Bistro style dining 7 days a week. The Basement Bar is also open 7 days.
Accommodation Standard
The standard of accommodation offered at Mercure Auckland is aimed at the value end of the 4 star class. The rooms are small but well designed with nice decor and a funky feel that is not overdone. It’s not supposed to be luxury, Accor have plenty of other hotels for that. And while not luxurious it is a step up from the ibis. Perfect for budget conscious business travellers or families on a tight budget wanting safe central accommodation in Auckland CBD.
