Overview of Novotel Auckland Airport
Novotel is a recently built (2011) 4 star hotel at Auckland Airport. It is located right next to the Auckland international airport terminal, the only hotel anywhere near this close. It is less than 2 minutes walk from the terminal door. It’s at the high end of 4 star hotels with great views of the airport from the upper floors. Offering 263 rooms plus 10 meeting rooms as well as a restaurant, bar and fitness centre. It’s not overly luxurious but should be more than adequate for any reasonable person. It’s a 30 minute drive from the CBD but that can easily extend to 1 hour in peak traffic.
Day-use rooms are available from 6am till 3pm. Given the proximity to the airport this is a great option if you are on a long stopover and in need of a rest. It’s a step up from an airline lounge , with a comfortable bed and some privacy a welcome relief to any traveller.
Part of the Accor Hotel Group which also runs the nearby IBIS Budget Auckland Airport and will run the new 5 Star Pullman Auckland Airport when it opens as well, giving them the ability to set prices for all for all of the Hotels on the Airport grounds. Don’t expect prices to drop anytime soon.

The location is a 10/10 if you need to be near the airport. Nothing else gets you this close. If you need an airport hotel and budget is not a concern then this is the hotel you want to stay in.

There is an adequate restaurant and bar but it’s nothing special. Breakfast seems to be their best meal. They also offer a cooking station where diners can have a custom meal prepared by the chef from the available ingredients. The bar offers a good selection of New Zealand wines and beers.

The standard of accommodation offered at Novotel Auckland Airport is an 7/10. The hotel rooms are small but well designed. It’s pleasant but not as luxurious as you might expect for the price. The rooms are very sound proof which is a plus. The communal spaces are nice but a little lacking in character or charm. The hotel has as many rooms as possible in the available space, this means there is no room for other guest facilities such as a pool or spa.
