Sometimes you want the convenience of a hotel close to the airport, maybe because you have an early morning departure, a late arrival, or you may just because you be stuck in Auckland with an overnight layover. Whatever the reason if you need an airport hotel in Auckland we’ve got you covered.
All major airports seem to be surrounded by hotels of a wide variety of standards. To be brutally honest a lot of them a pretty shit. So we’ve sorted through all the airport accommodation options to bring you just the best Hotels near Auckland Airport.
Auckland Airport’s first 5 star hotel Te Arikinui -Pullman Auckland Airport opens in December 2023. Bookings are now open. Located next to Novotel a few steps away from the International Terminal, Pullman Auckland Airport is now the most luxurious hotel at Auckland Airport. Sadly lacking a pool, the hotel does offer a fitness centre. The restaurant Te Kaahu is located on the top floor, offering great views of the runway, and the Manukau harbour.
This is the best hotel for business travelers and late night arrivals, if you need to stay one night at the airport and can afford it this is the best hotel.
This 4 star hotel is right next to Auckland International Airport Terminal. It’s literally 20 metres from the hotel to the escalator at the terminal entrance, so if you need to stay near the airport this is the closest and most convenient option. They also offer day stay rooms between 6am and 3pm perfect for weary travellers with a long wait between flights.
It’s equipped with everything you would expect in a 4 star hotel except for a pool. There’s also not much room outside to play if you’re travelling with children. While the new Pullman Auckland Airport will will be a slightly more upmarket option, Novotel Auckland Airport is still an excellent option for business travellers or anyone wanting an overnight stay at Auckland Airport.
Distinctive decor is a hallmark of Naumi Hotel Auckland Airport. So the eccentric yet luxurious design is something different to any other hotels on offer close to Auckland Airport. Great for art lovers Naumi boasts a sizeable collection of original artworks. The restaurant is open 6am to 10pm and room service is available 24/7. They’re located only a 5 minute drive from Auckland Airport and they offer a free airport shuttle service.
The only 5 star hotel near the airport, Naumi is great for business travellers and couples heading away on vacation. It has a heated pool and a putting green making it popular with both families and golfers.
Probably the most romantic hotel in Mangere (which if you know Auckland is an odd thing to say). Like an Oasis in a desert, Naumi hotel is a little piece of luxury in a fairly rough suburb. Once you enter the hotel you are in another world, they’ve really done a great job with the interior. It’s built around a lovely private courtyard with decent pool and golf green in the middle. Step out the front door though and you are back to reality.
In my opinion it’s actually a tiny bit nicer than the Novotel, but the Novotel has the best location (actually at Auckland Airport) and Novotel has views of the runway.
A well run family owned airport hotel, Jet Park really knows its market. They offer a free shuttle to and from the Auckland Airport; and they also offer free long term airport parking for New Zealanders who stay overnight before going on holiday. This makes it great value for travelers from outside Auckland departing and returning through Auckland airport. The cost of the hotel is similar to a weeks parking at Auckland Airport, when you add in the convenience of waking up next to the airport the value seems extraordinary.
It has a large modern conference centre so it is perfect for business travellers and company conferences. Jet Park is also great for families. However if you’re staying in Auckland for a longer holiday then this is not your best choice, you’ll want to be in the CBD. But it’s great for one or two nights if you need to stay near Auckland airport. It’s clean, well run and well maintained. The owners take pride in the hotel and keep it in good condition. It’s a good mid priced option close to Auckland Airport.
Great for families. Holiday Inn is close enough to the airport that you don’t need to worry about Auckland traffic if you’re trying to make a flight. It’s built around a courtyard with a fairly small shallow swimming pool and a grass area for children to play. Because of its location and perhaps because it has a nice bar it’s popular with both flight crews and business travellers. Great if you want to pick up a stewardess (or a pilot).
Holiday Inn also offer great long term parking at Auckland Airport. Up to 21 days if you stay one night.
It’s perfect for an overnight stay near Auckland Airport or if your visiting people in the area, but if you’re a tourist in Auckland for a longer visit you’ll want a hotel near the CBD.
This is a typical 4 star Airport hotel near Auckland Airport. It’s nice enough for an overnight stay as it’s clean and well maintained. Making it great for those on a layover, flight crews and business travellers.
However Sudima Auckland Airport is sandwiched between a major road and an industrial estate, so while it’s nice enough inside and close to the airport, it’s not the most desirable location in Auckland. if you don’t want to eat in the hotel restaurant you’ll need to uber to find something else as there’s nothing better in walking distance.
Cheap Auckland Airport Hotels
A cheap 2 star hotel close to the airport. IBIS Budget Auckland Airport is a great option for families travelling on a limited budget. Because it’s an airport hotel it’s better suited to a single night than a long stay.
On the plus side it’s new, clean, and well kept, showing 2 star hotels don’t have to be a bad experience.
The location is really good for an airport hotel, it’s next to a small shopping mall and has plenty of cheap dining options in walking distance, great if you want to stretch your legs but don’t have time to go anywhere far. And it’s really close to the airport. Only Novotel Auckland Airport is closer.

Auckland International Airport (AKL)
Auckland only has one airport. It contains a domestic terminal which is not 24 hours (4:30am to 11:00pm most days) and an international terminal that is open 24/7, 365 days a year. The international terminal is well served with places to eat at a variety of price points both before and after customs control. There is also plenty of duty free shopping with both international brands and NZ souvenirs.
Cheap Accommodation Near Auckland Airport
If you’re desperate you can sleep on the benches at the airport but you’ll be much happier choosing one of the great Auckland Airport hotels above. There are also a number of lower quality 2 and 3 star hotels, motels and even a backpackers. Sometime when flights are delayed and all of the above options are full you may need to resort to one of these budget Auckland Airport accommodation options.
Desperate for a cheap hotel near Auckland Airport for one night?
There a 6 nice hotels at Auckland Airport. Including ibis budget which is ‘nice for a budget hotel’. If they are all full then Best Western BK’s Pioneer Motor Lodge and Heartland Hotel are the next best options. They are both are perfectly good hotels, rather plain perhaps. But not gross.
After that, the standard off accommodation drops dramatically, but the price does not. Being near a major airport seems to allow hotels that would die anywhere else to survive. And they get to over charge desperate passengers a huge premium after a missed flight for a room they really should be paying you to stay in. Our advice is is to spend a little more. But if that’s not an option, at least read all the reviews before you decide, or better yet go take a look for yourself before you book.
Maybe we visited on a bad day; but this is what you get if you choose to look for a cheap Auckland Airport Hotel. To be fair the above photo is the side of the hotel not the front, but that is taken from footpath on the main road. Below is the front of the Hotel which a little more presentable.
And introducing Airport Palms another cheap hotel near Auckland Airport.
There is a stark contrast between these hotels and Heartland Hotel. However the price is not so different.
