New Years Eve in Auckland is Awesome. The city is alive with Great Fireworks at the Sky Tower and the Harbour. So any hotel that offers view of one or both is going to be sensational. Here’s our pick of the best hotels to celebrate New Years Eve in Auckland.
Wynyard Quarter and Viaduct Harbour are great place to bring in the New Year. Park Hyatt sits at the bridge where the two areas meet. There’s great views out towards the city skyline and towards the harbour so many rooms will have a great view of the fireworks if you want to watch from your room. Onemata restaurant have some awesome New Years packages where they bring you 4 courses over 3 hours from 9PM till Midnight. $145 per person. Kids under 12 are half price.
QT Auckland’s rooftop bar has rapidly become one of the places to be seen in Auckland over summer. There’s a New Years Eve party on the rooftop with 6 person booths going for $2,700 a pop. That includes food by Sean Connolly, and bubbles. Not the greatest view of the fireworks from here but you will have a good time. There’s mingle tickets available too for $299, if you don’t have enough friends to fill a booth.
SkyCity is the centre of much of the action with a huge fireworks display at the Sky Tower. Federal Street is alway one of the most popular locations in town and The Grand is right in the middle of it all. Plus it’s a fabulous hotel. Half of Auckland will descend on the SkyTower or any place that offers a great view of the SkyTower when SkyCity set off 1/2 a ton of fireworks in 5 minutes. Book a room at The Grand or SkyCity Hotel and you can avoid the traffic.
La Maree restaurant at Sofitel has a 6 course New Years Eve meal for $195 per head. This is a quieter more subdued affair without the DJ’s of some other locations. It’s a great place to spend New Years though as you’ll be based right in the heart of the Viaduct with all the nightlife Wynyard Quarter and the Viaduct have to offer.
With great view looking down towards the Sky Tower and the Auckland waterfront Grand Millennium is a great place to usher in the new year. It’s close enough that you’ll feel like your part of the action but far enough away you’ll be able to take it all in.
A really tall hotel with great views of the city, and one of the best rooftop bars in Auckland. (The Churchill). This is a great place to watch the fireworks from the comfort of your bed. Just pop the top off a bottle of bubbles and enjoy the view.
If your idea of a good time involves drinking bubbles in a fancy bath while watching fireworks through floor to ceiling windows then SO/ Auckland is just the place. THis bath is amazing at anytime of the year but it’s truly at its most amazing when there’s fireworks outside the window. If you room doesn’t come with a view don’t worry they’ve got a great rooftop bar. with views of the waterfront.
Mövenpick Hotel Auckland has the restaurant on the top floor. Appropriately named Vue Restaurant, it’s a great place to celebrate making it through another year. So book a table and treat yourself to an evening of drinking, fine food and amazing views of the fireworks over the harbour.
Located right in the heart of the Viaduct. This is the perfect Hotel if you like to party. Don’t expect a quiet night at New Years as the Viaduct Harbour will be a lot of fun (rather loud), but the views are sensational and it’s a great place to be in the summer.
Rydges rooftop New Years Eve party is legendary ,with an all inclusive charge that covers food and an open bar (tap beers and house red or white wine) you’ll be well pissed by midnight. Rydges is pretty close to the SkyTower so you’re nice and close to the fireworks.
The Britomart Block Party is fast becoming an Auckland institution. If you like your New Year’s loud with plenty of dancing then Britomart Block party is the place for you. And when your done dancing The Hotel Britomart is the perfect place for you to crash.
