Holiday Inn Express Auckland

Holiday Inn Auckland City Centre is an excellent cheap hotel. It opened in 2022, and, as a  purpose built hotel, not a converted office building, the rooms and layout are excellent. Copthorne 4 star business hotel in Auckland CBD for Families and Business Travelers

Copthorne Hotel Auckland is cheaper than average 4 star hotel in Auckland’s downtown area. It’s a little further out than some other options, but it is a pleasant hotel in walking distance of the city centre. It’s very close to Auckland University. The hotel has a small conference centre. It’s quite a walk to Auckland’s bars and restaurants from here, so you may end up spending more on taxis here than in other locations.

Jucy Snooze Auckland

Juicy Snooze cheep hotel room in Aukland suitable for families.

Jucy Snooze offers both private rooms and shared dormitory rooms. The private rooms are available in Double, Triple or Family. And they’re really cheap. The hotel is a well run 1 star hotel, don’t be expecting a 3 star or you’ll be disappointed. What you get here is a really cheap hotel room in downtown Auckland. So if your expecting the Hilton then look elsewhere.

The Albion Hotel

This is a historic pub hotel (built in 1863). It’s a 3 star but has a great reputation for friendly staff and has a great pub downstairs. It’s not a flash hotel so keep your expectations in check, it’s really well priced and is a great cheap place to stay in downtown Auckland.

There is no parking, and no lifts so you have to carry your bags up stairs. The rooms are a little dated. It’s not the Hilton, but it is clean, the staff are friendly, and it’s cheap.

Auckland City Hotel

3 star Auckland City Hotel

This cheap 3 star Hotel is in a historic building in Auckland’s central business district. It’s not the most desirable location in the CBD, but it is in walking distance from everywhere you want to be. So if you can’t afford to be in the Viaduct Harbour then this is a great budget option.

It’s clean and well kept with consistently good reviews. There’s some car parking available. The hotel has a little more character than many in others in the cheaper price range and therefore offers great value.

The Quadrant Hotel & Suites

the quadrant 4 star hotel studio bedroom

The Quadrant Hotel and Suites is a perfectly adequate Auckland hotel at a reasonable price in a slightly off central location. It’s in easy walking distance of all of downtown, and it’s close to Auckland University.

A cost effective, clean, safe place to stay; but not an instagramable location by any stretch of the imagination. You don’t come here for a romantic getaway, you come because your budget won’t stretch to something nicer. That said there’s nothing wrong with the hotel or the location, but it won’t be the highlight of your trip – it’s just another cheap hotel in Auckland.

Haka Hotel Suites Auckland

Located on K Road in the top of Auckland’s CBD Haka Hotel is in a different part of town to any of the other central Auckland Hotels. K Road is known for its vibrant nightlife, and there’s plenty of bars and nightclubs close by so expect some noise. You should also expect plenty of drunken idiots roaming the streets on a Friday or Saturday night. You’ll find this is a great location if you’re one of the drunken idiots.

The hotel itself is really nice. Partly because it’s still pretty new (as of 2019) and things are well maintained. Because of this reviews are generally very good, which can be hard to maintain for a cheap hotel.

In summary Haka Hotel is a high quality cheap Hotel in Auckland in a location that won’t suit everyone. But for others the location will be part of the attraction. It’s walking distance to anywhere you’ll want to go if you are young and fit. Eden Park is only 20 minutes walk and Ponsonby is close by. You’ll find getting to the Viaduct is a pleasant 30 minute downhill stroll, However less fit visitors might want to take a bus or uber back up the hill. It’s perfect for younger travellers.

If none of these cheap Hotels in Auckland meet your needs then try stepping up to a 4 star hotel instead, or see all Auckland Hotels.

VR Queen Street Hotel

3 star VR Hotel Queen street bedroom suite

Situated near the top end of Queen Street the VR Queen Street Hotel is a definitely a cheap hotel. It’s still in the Auckland CBD but it’s near the top of Queen Street. So if you’re holidaying here you can still walk anywhere in Auckland Central but it is a bit of a hike back up the hill to your hotel. Consider it part of your fitness regime and you’ll be just fine.

The hotel itself is at the nice end of 3 star or the bottom end of 4 star. You’ll be staying here because of the price or lack of vacancy in other hotels, but it’s actually a nice place to spend a few days. It’s close to K Roads bars and nightclubs.
