Located on K Road in the top of Auckland’s CBD Haka Hotel is in a different part of town to any of the other central Auckland Hotels. K Road is known for its vibrant nightlife, and there’s plenty of bars and nightclubs close by so expect some noise. You should also expect plenty of drunken idiots roaming the streets on a Friday or Saturday night. You’ll find this is a great location if you’re one of the drunken idiots.
The hotel itself is really nice. Partly because it’s still pretty new (as of 2019) and things are well maintained. Because of this reviews are generally very good, which can be hard to maintain for a cheap hotel.
In summary Haka Hotel is a high quality cheap Hotel in Auckland in a location that won’t suit everyone. But for others the location will be part of the attraction. It’s walking distance to anywhere you’ll want to go if you are young and fit. Eden Park is only 20 minutes walk and Ponsonby is close by. You’ll find getting to the Viaduct is a pleasant 30 minute downhill stroll, However less fit visitors might want to take a bus or uber back up the hill. It’s perfect for younger travellers.
