Ponsonby is the perfect place to stay in Auckland if you want accommodation somewhere close to but not actually in the CBD. This central Auckland Suburb is famous for it’s boutique shopping and it’s many up market bars and restaurants. There’s not a huge number of Hotel beds available in Ponsonby, with many of the hotels being small luxury hotels, or boutique hotels. The exception being Quest Ponsonby which offers quality but standard apartment hotel style accommodation.

Hotel Fitzroy is a small luxury hotel on Ponsonby Road. It’s close to many great restaurants & shopping, It’s a short taxi or uber to the Viaduct and CBD. This is a great hotel for couples. It’s offers a magnificent breakfast in the room and there’s plenty of restaurants nearby so you may not even notice they don’t actually have a restaurant. They do serve drinks in the library or in your room. But Ponsonby road has plenty of bars if you want to meet new people.
The Great Ponsonby Arthotel
The Great Ponsonby Art Hotel is a small B&B style Hotel in the fashionable Auckland suburb of Ponsonby. It’s a quick bus ride to the CBD or a long (but reasonable walk). The hotel itself is close to a number of good cafes, bars and restaurants on Ponsonby Road. It’s a historic house converted into a hotel. First built in the 1890’s it has plenty of authentic charm. The decor is a pacific art theme filled with original New Zealand and pacific works of art. It won’t be to everyones taste. But those who like it, will love it.

The Ponsonby Manor
The Ponsonby Manor is perfectly located on Ponsonby Road. It’s in the heart of Auckland’s most fashionable suburb. A short walk to Ponsonby’s great restaurants, bars, and boutique shops.
The style of accommodation in this beautifully restored 1860’s mansion is very homely, but not like your own home. More like a wealthy doctors home. It’s way more relaxed than a traditional large hotel in the CBD, but still classy. There’s one family room the rest are more suited to couples.
Quest Ponsonby Road Hotel
Quest Ponsonby is a serviced apartment hotel located on Ponsonby Road. Choose from a studio, one or two bedroom option. It’s a great for business travellers, couples or families. There’s a supermarket and plenty to see and do nearby. Western Park is directly across the road, which is great for families. Walk to K Road or stroll Ponsonby Road.
Hotels Near Ponsonby
If you are interested in a staying near Ponsonby then this Gem of a hotel is about 2 km away in the nearby suburb of Grey Lynn. Built in a converted nunnery this stunning boutique hotel has so much character. It’s very reasonably priced and while you’ll need the occasional taxi or uber it is really close to town. You can walk to Ponsonby Road, K Road or Eden Park from here.
With only 22 rooms you know you’ll be well looked after. There’s a restaurant and bar. They have family rooms as well as one bedrooms and studios. Some with balconies and all with oodles of character.
