It’s free and fast enough to enjoy watching, whatever you choose to watch when you alone in a hotel.
Located a short walk from Park Hyatt in in the Viaduct Harbour is the equally superb Sofitel Auckland. Sofitel brings their famous french flair to Auckland with this luxurious and stylish hotel. QT Hotel Auckland CBD is located on the edge of the Viaduct Harbour. It’s an easy walk to Queen street and pretty much anywhere in the CBD. QT hotels are known for their quirky decor, and this one is no exception. Because of the fabulous rooftop bar and excellent restaurant, this has become one of the places to be seen in Auckland CBD. A great summer hotel due to its waterfront location. It’s also got excellent free wifi.
Sudima Auckland City is a 4 star hotel with free wifi. It’s located close to the Convention Centre and SkyCity Casino. Perfect for business travellers, it has good motorway access and is in the CBD. You can walk to anywhere in town from here.
This is an apartment hotel and doesn’t have all of the amenities you might expect from a quality hotel. It does however have free wifi. The Sebel Viaduct Harbour is in a superb location, right in the heart of the Viaduct above some of Auckland’s finest restaurants. It can be a little noisy on weekend nights as it’s in the busiest part of the Viaduct. The higher the room the less noise there is. You will be spoilt for choice of restaurants. No other hotel puts you into the action of the Viaduct Harbour nightlife like the Sebel.
M Social is a great 4 star hotel with free wifi in Auckland’s central business district, right across the road from the Viaduct Harbour. Because it’s in such a great location on Auckland’s waterfront, many rooms have fabulous sea views.
It’s at the top end of 4 star hotels in Auckland CBD; I’d almost call it a 5 star. With 190 rooms, it’s pretty large, perfect for families and couples. It’s close to the ferry terminal and Britomart train station, right on the waterfront near the Viaduct Harbour. This is a top-quality 4 star hotel with a lot of activities located nearby. The only negative is it doesn’t have a pool.

This is a great location for younger couples and business travelers who like the nightlife. It’s close to Auckland’s main concert venue Spark Arena so it’s great for New Zealanders visiting Auckland for a concert. And of course it has free wifi or it wouldn’t be on this list.

This hotel has location and style. Great for local couples on a romantic weekend, and couples visiting Auckland for a holiday. They have complimentary hi speed wifi in all rooms.
JW Marriott Auckland (previously known as Stamford Plaza) is a 5 star hotel in Auckland central with some very luxurious suites. This large hotel has 283 rooms and 2 restaurants. It’s located on Albert Street, a central city location roughly halfway between Skycity and the Viaduct Harbour. Most of Auckland’s attractions are within easy walking distance, but none are on the doorstep either.
Don’t miss The Grove Restaurant, located a few minutes walk away and consistently one of Auckland’s best restaurants for many years. This is a great CBD hotel for business travelers. It has air conditioning and free wifi.
Pullman Auckland is a 5 star hotel that offers free wifi. It’s a short walk through Albert Park to the fabulous Auckland Art Gallery and only a 20 minute walk to the Viaduct Harbour.
This is one of Auckland older 5 star hotels but has been renovated and is of a high standard. Pullman Auckland City is great for business travelers, older couples and families.
Copthorne Hotel Auckland is 4 star hotel in downtown Auckland. It’s a little further out than some other options, but it is a pleasant hotel in walking distance of the city centre. It’s very close to Auckland University. The hotel has a small conference centre and offers free wifi. It’s quite a walk to Auckland’s bars and restaurants from here, so you may end up spending more on taxis here than in other locations.
The Quadrant Hotel and Suites is a adequate hotel at a reasonable price in a slightly off central location, but still in easy walking distance of all of downtown Auckland. It’s also close to Auckland University.
This is a cost effective, clean, safe place to stay but not really a desirable place to stay. You don’t come here for a romantic getaway, you come because your budget won’t stretch to something nicer. There is nothing wrong with the hotel or the location but it won’t be the highlight of your trip. It does however have free wifi.

This 4 Star Hotel is located in Auckland CBD so it’s a fairly short walk to the Viaduct and to the Sky Tower, however it’s a little further to Queen Street. It has a excellent heated rooftop pool making it a firm favorite with families. For serious swimmers it’s also got an indoor lap pool. Look out for their excellent school holiday deals. They offer free wifi but it’s capped at 2GB per 24 gust per day.
President Hotel is a cheap 3 star hotel with a great location in downtown Auckland. The rooms a clean well kept, it offers excellent value for money for anyone travelling on a budget. The two room family suite is great value for those travelling with children. Close to Queen Street, the SkyTower and in easy walking distance of Viaduct Harbour or Spark Arena, the location is right in the heart of Auckland CBD. Free wifi and one of the cheapest buffet breakfasts in town make this a great spot if you are travelling on a budget.
This is a beautiful and well appointed hotel that has been recently renovated. The heated rooftop pool is one of Auckland City’s best hotel pools. Eight Restaurant offers eight different kitchens each offering their own cuisine, they really do cater to every taste.
Cordis Hotel is close to the Auckland Domain, Auckland Hospital, and the French Cafe. It’s great for couples, business travelers, and families. It’s good value in comparison to other 5 Star hotels in Auckland Central and it has high speed free wifi.

Located in Central Auckland the 5 star Crowne Plaza Hotel is great for families. It is close to Aotea Square, 10 pin bowling, movies, restaurants, the sky tower and all that Auckland has to offer. There is a mall downstairs and it’s a 2 minute walk to Queen Street and 10 minutes to the Viaduct. This is a great location for families with young kids or teenagers. It’s also got free wifi.
This scenic hotel is located on Queen Street in the Heart of Auckland City. It’s a well priced hotel in a great location. It’s cheaper than many others that are located this central, and better appointed than most hotels that are cheaper. This makes it a great for couples on a budget.
It’s close to Aotea Square but you walk out the door onto Queen Street all of Auckland CBD is a only a short walk away. They have free wifi in all rooms.
Four Points by Sheraton is a clean modern 4 star hotel with free wifi on Auckland’s Queen Street. It offers spectacular views from rooms on high floors. The location is great. It’s a 15-20 minute walk to Viaduct Harbour and 5 minutes to the Sky Tower, but there is plenty to see and do close by as well. Aotea Centre is a 1 minute walk and Auckland City’s excellent art gallery is also close by. This is a great option for any business trip.
As of July 2019 the Four Point’s hotel is also home to the highest rooftop cocktail bar in Auckland CBD. ‘The Churchill’ offers magnificent views and a wide selection of gin based cocktails.
Parkside Hotel (formerly Amora Hotel) is a really well priced 4 star hotel in Auckland CBD. It’s on the top end of Grey’s Ave close to the bars and clubs of Auckland’s K Road. It overlooks the picturesque Meyer’s park. Do not be tempted to walk through Meyers park alone at night.
This hotel is great for couples. Some of the rooms have spa baths and all have free wifi. It’s is a long walk to many of Auckland’s attractions and popular restaurant districts, that is reflected in the price. The hotel itself is a solid 4 star. The pool is very small not suitable for lap swimming.
This 3 star Hotel is in a historic building in Auckland’s central business district. It’s not the most desirable location in the CBD, but it is in walking distance from everywhere you want to be. If you can’t afford to be in the Viaduct this is a great option. It’s clean and well kept with consistently good reviews. There is some car parking available. This hotel has a little more character than many in others in the cheaper price range and is great value. The wifi here is free but only 500MB per stay. So expect to have to pay if you’re here more than a night or two or do anything more than check a few emails.
Ohtel is a beautiful new 5 star hotel in Auckland’s Viaduct. It’s got stylish mid century modern furniture and best of all free wifi in all the rooms. It’s only a short walk from at least 50 restaurants and close to Britomart Station. This is a great part of Auckland for tourists.
Located near the top of Queen Street Mercure Auckland opens March 2021. Run by the Accor chain it’s a value based option targeted above IBIS and below Novotel. It’s good cheap accommodation on Queen Street, but not a place you’ll write home about. It’s well priced, and while it’s not the part of Queen Street most tourists will want to stay in it is good value all things considered. One of the cheaper hotels in Auckland city centre and it has free wifi.
Located near the top end of Queen Street the VR Queen Street Hotel is a lower priced hotel. It’s still in the Auckland CBD but it is near the top of Queen Street. If your holidaying here you can still walk anywhere in Auckland Central but it is a bit of a hike back up the hill to your hotel. Consider it part of your fitness regime and you’ll be just fine. The hotel itself is at the nice end of 3 star or the bottom end of 4 star. You’ll be staying here because of the price or vacancy of other hotels but it’s actually a nice place to spend a few days. It’s close to K Roads bars and nightclubs. It’s also close to the townhall and Aotea square. VR Queen Street offers free wifi.
Hotel DeBrett is a beautifully restored and renovated Art Deco themed 5 star Boutique Hotel located on High Street in the heart of Auckland City. It’s proximity to Shortland Street makes it perfect for business people who are needing to be in the city centre. It’s got plenty of character and history, its also got free wifi. And with only 25 rooms you know you will be well looked after. It’s an easy walk to Britomart and the Viaduct Harbour. This is a great central location. If you’re staying here don’t miss dining at the nearby Cassia restaurant.
Avani Metropolis Auckland Residences is an apartment hotel with free wifi. The rooms are studio, 1 bedroom of 2 bedroom apartments with cooking facilities. The hotel has access to the buildings gym and pools which are excellent.
Avani Hotel is between Kitchener Street and High Street which is an excellent central location. The Hotel itself has no restaurant but there are many excellent restaurants on High Street. A short walk will take you to Cassia, Auckland’s best equal restaurant in 2019.
CityLife is a 4 star hotel in a central location on Auckland Queen Street. It’s a 15 minute walk to Viaduct Harbour down Auckland’s main street. Rooms range from simple and functional to the extravagant Penthouse suite. If you have business in the CBD and are on a moderate budget this is a great option. They offer free wifi but limit it to 2 GB.
IBIS Budget Auckland Central is a 3 star hotel offering compact affordable accommodation in a very central location. It’s just off Auckland’s Queen Street. In easy walking distance of any of Auckland CBDs main attractions. This hotel is great for anyone travelling on a budget. Keep your expectations as low as they keep the price. They do however offer free wifi with is a plus in a budget hotel.
