If you’re looking to stay in South Auckland then try one of these hotels.
Easily the nicest hotel in South Auckland is DoubleTree by Hilton Karaka. It’s a 4 star hotel, but being new in 2022 and aimed at the top end of the 4 star category it’s pretty luxurious. There’s a large outdoor pool, and a great restaurant and bar, as well as a fitness centre so it’s very well equipped. 15 minutes from Manukau in light traffic.
Manukau Hotels
The Sebel is a genuine 4 star hotel. Without doubt the nicest hotel in Manukau. It’s great for business travellers and families. It’s an odd location for a couples weekend away, but the hotels nice enough you could almost pull it off. It’s close to the motorway so access to town is great except in peak traffic. It’s close to Manukau mall and Rainbows End. There’s a restaurant in the hotel and plenty of other dining options nearby in the low and mid end of the market. If you want fine dining you’ll need to head into the CBD.
Ramada Manukau
The newest Hotel in Manukau, Ramada, is a 4 star. It offers traditional hotel rooms and apartment style rooms with self cooking. It’s a great option for business travellers. But the lack of two bedroom apartments will limit its appeal to families. It’s close to Manukau Mall and Rainbows End. Also wero White Water Park and a Lone Star restaurant. It’s a little further from the mall than The Sebel but still a walkable distance. You’ll probably want a car if you’re staying in this location.
Proximity Serviced Apartments Manukau
Proximity Apartments is a budget hotel in Manukau. The rooms are not large and cheaply furnished but on the plus side there’s great views from the higher level apartments, and they two bedroom apartments so it’s good for families on a budget.
Hotels in Mangere
Naumi Hotel in Mangere is a true 5 star hotel. It’s the most romantic hotel in South Auckland and it’s location close to Auckland Airport means it’s alway popular with visitors arriving or departing New Zealand through Auckland.
The hotel has a heated outdoor pool and a putting green. It also has an excellent restaurant and very funky decor throughout the hotel. Naumi hotel offers free parking for guests.
Jet Park Hotel in Mangere is another popular option near Auckland Airport. This hotel is great for families, and a is also a popular conference venue. They have free long term parking if you stay one night, so it popular with New Zealanders going overseas via Auckland Airport. There’s a free airport shuttle, an outdoor pool.
Holiday Inn in Mangere has a resort like feel. It’s built around a central courtyard with a pool and plenty of grass. Great for families with young children. Well priced, and handy to the airport (with free parking), this is an excellent option if you need a couple of nights accommodation in South Auckland. Holiday Inn has a restaurant and bar.
Novotel Auckland Airport is the best Airport Hotel in Auckland. It’s located right outside the Auckland International Airport terminal. The hotel was renovated in early 2020 so is in good shape. You’d really only stay here if you’re using the airport though. Because of it’s proximity to the Airport it’s not cheap and is always near capacity.
Sudima Hotel in Managare is a quality 4 star hotel. It’s great for business travellers that need to stay near the airport. Sudima has a restaurant and bar, an indoor lap pool and some serious environment accreditations if that’s an important factor for you. This hotel is chasing the same market as Novotel Auckland Airport and is an excellent second choice if Novotel is full. It’s not the option I’d choose if travelling with a family. But great on business trip, especially if you have a car as they offer free parking.
IBIS Budget Auckland Airport is on the edge of the Airport grounds. It’s aimed at those on a budget who need a hotel close to the airport. Most guests will only stay one night at IBIS either arriving or leaving Auckland. It’s a quality offering in its class, they don’t promise luxury but do offer a clean, pleasant, safe space for families. It is by far the best budget hotel in South Auckland.
Heartland Hotel is located next to Sudima Hotel but is more suited to families. It’s got a relaxed casual atmosphere. It’s really a 3 star hotel, it’s not fancy but it does have everything you need.
Best Western BK’s Pioneer Motor Lodge is a clean well run 3 star Hotel close to Auckland Airport. There are a lot of terrible hotels and motels in this part of town, but BK’s is really one of the nice ones. It’s more suited to a single night than a long stay. This is a good option for families for a night or maybe a business trip of 2-3 nights. BK’s offers free parking to guests.
South Auckland also has some of New Zealand’s worst hotels. Proximity to a major international airport obviously allows hotel’s to survive when they really should fail. Perhaps because they get just enough desperate passengers looking for a single nights accommodation after a cancelled flight.
If you’ve driven up from Huntly to watch the Warriors play and want somewhere cheap to stay, then perhaps try one of the hotels below. You’ll probably feel right at home. Some of them even have pokies. If you’re not from Huntly read the google reviews carefully before selecting one of these hotels.
