Planning a trip to Auckland in Winter?
Auckland’s a beautiful city all year round and there’s plenty of sunny days even in winter. But it does rain a fair bit, and it can be kinda windy too. So if you’re planning a visit during the winter months then try one of these cozy hotels.

Hotel Grand Windsor is a great winter hotel. The historic building is located near the bottom end of Auckland’s Queen Street. Right in the middle of the best shopping area. The Hotel has a cozy feel throughout the rooms, the lobby, and the restaurant. And Queen Street has covered footpaths on both sides on the lower half so you can get out and explore even when the weather isn’t the best. Nearby Cassia Restaurant is great summer or winter, but it feels super inviting on a cold winter evening and is a must visit for dinner if you are staying in this part of the city. Auckland Art Gallery is also great on a rainy day and a short sheltered walk away from Hotel Grand Winsor. So don’t let the weather put you off, book that weekend away and enjoy all that Auckland has to offer.

Hotel DeBrett is located in fashionable High Street, close to great boutique shopping, pubs, Queen Street, Britomart and Auckland Art Gallery. It’s a really cozy spot for a couples winter getaway. The house bar is the perfect spot to relax on a cold winter’s night and the restaurant is an Atrium that feels warm and light in even the nastiest weather. It’s close to Commercial Bay and the excellent winters day pubs of Vultures Lane where you can easily spend a day drinking and eating.

The Hotel Britomart seems made for whiling away a winter’s day in bed with that special someone. This is the coziest 5 star hotel in Auckland, And the location is great too Britomart is close to waterfront but less exposed than some of the other hotels right on the water’s edge. There’s easy pedestrian access to great shopping and dining close by. And it’s right next to the train station if you want to catch a train to New Market for even more shopping. This hotel is superb all year around but quite possibly the pick of the bunch in winter.

The Grand at SkyCity is another great option in Winter and here’s why. It’s got so much to do without going outside. There’s an air bridge across to the Casino, the Sky Tower, and the theatre. There’s a number of Auckland’s finest restaurants in the SkyCity complex as well as a great night club. You can seriously eat 3 meals a day for 3 days without eating in the same restaurant once. Go to a show, blow a few bucks at the casino, enjoy a spa treatment, and never go outside.

Cordis is New Zealand’s largest hotel, and it’s a true 5 star. But just because it’s large doesn’t mean it can’t be cosy. The restaurant, lobby and communal spaces all have a really grand feeling that is somehow perfect for winter. Almost like a Canadian Railway Hotel (but without the mountains or lakes). Best of all the rooftop pool is heated to 27c which is warm enough to enjoy even on a rainy Auckland winters day.
