Auckland University is located on the eastern side of Auckland CBD. If you have meetings or are attending a conference then these are the closest hotels to the University of Auckland.
Pullman Auckland is a 5 star hotel located on the Corner of Princess Street and Waterloo Quadrant in Auckland’s CBD. It’s right next to Auckland University, Old Government House and Albert Park, and it’s a short walk through Albert Park to the fabulous Auckland Art Gallery.
This is one of Auckland Central’s older 5 star hotels but has been renovated and is of a high standard. There’s a good restaurant, and a great pool. Pullman Auckland City is excellent for business travelers, older couples and families. It’s easily the best hotel near Auckland University.
The Quadrant Hotel & Suites
The Quadrant Hotel and Suites is a adequate hotel at a reasonable price. It’s located right next to the Pullman and is therefore also very close to Auckland University. This is a cost effective, clean, safe place to stay, but it won’t be the highlight of your trip to Auckland. It’s very convenient to the University though.
Copthorne Hotel Auckland is 4 star hotel in downtown Auckland. Located on lower Symonds Street it’s a pleasant hotel in close walking distance of The University of Auckland. The hotel has a small conference centre. It’s quite a walk to Auckland’s bars and restaurants from here, so you may end up spending more on taxis here than in other locations.
Hotel DeBrett is a beautifully restored and renovated Art Deco themed 5 star Boutique Hotel located on High Street in the heart of Auckland City. It’s proximity to Shortland Street makes it perfect for business people who are needing to be in the city centre. It’s got plenty of character and history, with only 25 rooms you will be well looked after. It’s an easy walk to Britomart and the Viaduct Harbour. This is a great central location. If you’re staying here don’t miss dining at the nearby Cassia restaurant.
Avani Metropolis Auckland Residences is an apartment hotel. The rooms are studio, 1 bedroom of 2 bedroom apartments with cooking facilities. The hotel has access to the buildings gym and pools which are excellent.
Avani Hotel is between Kitchener Street and High Street which is an excellent central location. The Hotel itself has no restaurant but there are many excellent restaurants on High Street. Vivace Restaurant is not to be missed. Or a short walk will take you to Cassia, Auckland’s best equal restaurant in 2019.

A short walk up Symonds Street from AUT is the beautiful and well appointed Cordis hotel. It’s been recently renovated in 2022. The heated rooftop pool is one of Auckland City’s best hotel pools. Eight Restaurant offers eight different kitchens each offering their own cuisine, they really do cater to every taste.
Cordis Hotel is close to the Auckland Domain, Auckland Hospital, and the French Cafe. It’s great for couples, business travelers, and families. It’s good value in comparison to other 5 Star hotels in Auckland Central. This is the best Hotel for anyone visiting AUT and it’s also reasonably close to Auckland University Medical School, Engineering School, and Architecture School.
Four Points by Sheraton is a clean modern 4 star hotel on Auckland’s Queen Street. A short walk from AUT. It offers spectacular views from rooms on high floors. The location is great. It’s a 15-20 minute walk to Viaduct Harbour and 5 minutes to the Sky Tower, but there is plenty to see and do close by as well. Aotea Centre is a 1 minute walk and Auckland City’s excellent art gallery is also close by. This is a great option for anyone visiting AUT or the University.
As of July 2019 the Four Points hotel is also home to the highest rooftop cocktail bar in Auckland CBD (about to be overtaken by voco Auckland’s new bar). ‘The Churchill’ offers magnificent views and a wide selection of gin based cocktails.
Airedale Boutique Suites (formerly Scenic Hotel) is located on Queen Street in the Heart of Auckland City well priced hotel is in a great location.Close to AUT and Auckland University. Renovated in 2020 this hotel is a heritage building in excellent condition.
